How To Help

Call them what you want: wills, trusts, estates, or bequests. All are tools to continue or establish your legacy of caring for children, forever.

Do you have a passion for children? Perhaps you want to help children to grow up in a safe, nurturing home in which they can thrive. Maybe you want to forever support CASA advocacy services for abused and neglected children in your area. It may be as simple as giving back for the good life you and your children have led.

You may find joy in planning a future charitable gift to forever benefit your favorite causes.

Your future gift can be any size. If you are planning a major gift, you should consult your attorney, account or wealth manager. This will help you find the form of giving that makes sense for you.

And, charitable giving is an alternative to paying more taxes!

Bequests are generally left through language in a will or living trust. You can name a specific dollar amount or percentage of your estate, or what remains after all other gifts and expenses have been met. The Southeast CASA Program is the organization you would name as a beneficiary. Talk with your attorney, accountant, or financial advisor about your philanthropic legacy.

You can name the Southeast CASA Program as the designated beneficiary of a retirement plan such as your IRA, 401(k), or 403 (b). It's easy; you usually need only notify the firm holding the asset and as that Southeast CASA Program be named as a beneficiary.

If you are 70 1/2 or older, you have a special option for charitable giving through your IRA. You can transfer any amount up to $100.000 a year without it counting as taxable income!

You can make a wonderful gift of life insurance by irrevocably naming the Southeast CASA Program as the partial or contingent beneficiary of your policy. Your life insurance proceeds will help further the Southeast CASA Program's good work, and your estate will benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction based on the value of the proceeds paid. Tax benefits depend on whether the policy is paid off or if you continue to pay premiums.

You can realize the tax advantages of making a gift now, while still receiving income from the assets through a charitable remainder trust. After providing income to you during your lifetime, the remaining assets can be used to establish a charitable fund or to contribute to an existing fund. An attorney can help you with this.

A Charitable Lead Trust (CLT) distributes income to your charitable fund for a period of years or during your lifetime. The assets return to you or surviving family members. A CLT can allow you to make a significant gift to a charity and transfer assets to family members while saving taxes. Contact your attorney for more information.

An endowment will provide dependable, perpetual income to your chosen causes. It will carry on your family's name and legacy forever. It will grow bigger over time, which fuels even more child advocacy for children in need. Gifts from a community fund endowment can make all the difference to a non-profit's work.

Join your friends and neighbors as a "For Children, Forever" member for the Southeast CASA Program. This lets the Southeast CASA Program's staff and board thank you during your lifetime for your future gift. The abused and neglected children that you will be providing CASA advocacy services for may never thank you, but we will!
